All pieces are handmade by Vivian Elsner
The Vivian Collection consists of handmade pieces of tatting, all created by my grandmother, my Baba. Tatting is a form of lace making created by using a shuttle and thread. Knots and loops are hand-crafted to create motifs, or designs. Tatting traces back to the oldest kind of lace making, macramé. It originated in Europe in the 16th century. Today, it is a very rare art form that takes lots of patience and practice to create. My Baba was taught how to tat when she was in elementary school in Pennsylvania. The nuns taught her how to tat during recess, and she has continued to tat for eight decades. These beautiful pieces have all been carefully tatted especially for the shop!
